The Organic World Foundation was created and set up by IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) in 2008 to support it in funding its core activities and in increasing the visibility of organic food in the world.
Organic agriculture offers a real alternative to conventional, chemical-based agriculture. Organic means sustainability over long term and food security. It means respect for the environment and biodiversity. It also means reducing dependence on fossil fuels that contribute to climate change. Supporting organic certainly means opposing genetic engineering in all of agriculture.
Representing stakeholders involved in every facet of organic production worldwide, IFOAM is now celebrating its 35 years of commitment, experience and passion for organic agriculture. IFOAM is a non profit organization, whose action is inspired by four main ethical principles: health, ecology, fairness and care. Over 700 members in more than 100 countries assist IFOAM in its everyday engagement for organic agriculture all over the world.
We firmly believe that organic agriculture can produce sufficient, safe and healthy food for everyone. But organic agriculture still remains a small fraction of the total agricultural and food production of the world. Therefore, IFOAM is constantly working to enable organic trade, protect organic integrity, provide invaluable resources and information, and guarantee that the organic voice is heard at critical policy discussions worldwide. IFOAM wants to enhance the organic community, to help create a vision of the future and actionable steps to take us there.
Our goals are ambitious. They require enthusiasm, patience and means. We want to reach them with your help. We believe that organic agriculture has a major role to play in a more sustainable future and we are proud to give our energies and our commitment to such a relevant cause every day. The Organic World Foundation is now establishing its head quarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Within a few weeks the Foundation will be legally registered under the Swiss law, and it will become possible to support our work directly from this website.
